The caller has not been granted permission to install a printer. To install a printer, the user must be a member of the local Administrator group of the Power User group. The customer wrote an application that must sent TCP/IP packets to two different subnets. The customer’s pc exists on subnet A and he needs to send packets to subnet B and subnet C. You discover the pc can send packets successfully to subnet B, but not subnet C. What should you do to resolve the problem?

Manually add a new entry to the route table specifying the default gateway on subnet C. Only one default gateway is specified during automatic configuration. However, because the computer must send packets through two gateways, you must manually add an entry for the second gateway to the route table.

12. You are a DST and a customer calls with Windows XP Professional installed has just installed a new network adapter. When the customer starts the computer, a STOP error occurs. What should you tell the customer to do to recover from the startup error?

Last Known Good Configuration – this method allows you to start the operating system using the previous hardware profile the last time the system started successfully. If the network drivers were installed the last time the operating system was started successfully, Last Known Good Configuration might solve the problem.

Safe Mode with Networking – if Last Known Good Configuration does not work, Safe Mode with Networking allows the network services to be loaded so you can access a network with the system is started.

Safe Mode – If Safe Mode with Networking does not work, Safe Mode should be used because it loads only the minimum required drivers.

Recovery Console – If Safe Mode does not work, the customer should try Recovery Console. Recovery Console allows you to diagnose and solve operating system problems from a command prompt before the operating system is started. If the Recovery Console is not already installed, this requires a bootable CD-ROM.

All of your friends can access the Web site, and you do not see any Internet Explorer restrictions that should prevent you from accessing the Web site. A friend of yours configured your computer to allow faster Internet response time and the problem began afterwards. What actions should you perform to diagnose this problem?

Use Internet Explorer to open the Web site using its IP address. This allows you to determine if the problem is related to network connectivity or name resolution.
If you are able to access the website using its IP address, then the problem is related to name resolution. NSLOOKUP http://www.windowstipsonline.com/ allows you to determine if the website is registered with DNS. If the website is registered properly, then the problem might be related to the local Hosts file. The computer checks the local Hosts file before contacting DNS for name resolution.

Create five local user accounts. Because the contractors will use only one computer, they will not have accounts in the domain.
Create a local group named Contractors. You can then grant the Contractors group access to the local printer.
Add each local account to the Contractors local group.
Allow each contractor to log on using his or her local account. This allows audit settings to apply to the individual contractors.
Enable auditing in the local security policy on the computer.
